Why you need your chimney swept regularly
Having your chimney swept regularly is essential if you own a wood burner or a multifuel stove or fireplace.
For fumes and soot to be able to escape, the chimney needs to be kept clear. If blocked, it can have both dangerous and messy consequences.
A regular sweep helps to get rid of any debris which could lead to a chimney fire.
It also helps to avoid a build-up of soot which could affect the performance of your wood burner, stove or fire and lead to smoke and fumes such as carbon monoxide entering your room rather than being pulled up the chimney.
No matter what type of chimney you have, whether it is lined or not, you still need to have it swept on a regular basis
How often do I need my chimney swept?
You should have your chimney swept at least once a year, or every six months if you use it a lot. Most of our customers book sweeps before the colder weather kicks in from August onwards.
However, the spring and summer months are an equally good option as windows can be left open during and after the sweep.
Depending on the build-up and size it usually takes around 40-60 minutes to sweep one chimney.
Keeping it clean
Our chimney sweep takes great care to make sure every job is kept as clean as possible, using a modern HEPA Filter vacuum system combined with traditional chimney sweeping methods.
This combination allows for a gentler sweep which helps preserve the brick and rendered chimney flues and stainless steel liners, while keeping dust and soot securely inside the vacuum.
We bring our own dust sheets and cover furniture, the floor and the area surrounding the fire while we work. Our vacuum stays on throughout the sweep and while we are clearing up to help minimise any remaining particles in the air.
All you need to do is move any breakables or valuable items away from the chimney area before we arrive.
